Unfinished Projects Taking Up Space? How to Let Go Guilt-Free
Got unfinished projects taking up space? You know…
🫣 That half-finished quilt with all the pieces cut out.
🫣 The lamp that needs rewiring.
🫣 The antique canoe you’d love to refinish.
You can imagine them done and how excited you’ll be to use them. To show them off.
And they call to you – from the closet, the basement, the barn…
“Hey, remember me? Let’s do this!”
But year after year, you give them a longing glance then move on.
It’s not that you don’t want to finish your projects…
…you just can’t seem to find the time.
Meanwhile, sidelined projects take up precious space in your home – and your mind.
It’s the niggling guilt that whispers:
“I really should get back to that someday.”
But for many unfinished projects, not having time is just the surface symptom.
The real issue is…
Your life has changed.
Your priorities shifted.
Your interests evolved.
So letting go of old projects that no longer light you up is a gift, because it means letting go of the guilt.
And anything you can do to lighten your mind as you lighten your home is a move in the right direction.
So how do you tell if letting your project go is a good move?
Ask yourself these 3 questions:
1️⃣ Would I start this project today, knowing what I know about my life now?
2️⃣ What would it actually take to finish this – time, money, skill I’d need to learn – and am I genuinely willing to invest that?
3️⃣ If a friend told me this exact story, about their long unfinished project, what would I advise them to do?
Spend 10 minutes talking out your answers with a friend, writing in a journal, or recording your answers.
Then see:
IF YOUR ENERGY LIFTS in renewed excitement – actually schedule time to work on your project!
IF YOUR ENERGY DIPS – well, that’s a pretty sure sign you can bless and release that old project.
Guilt free. ❤️
