Getting Started

Should I declutter before I pack?

Yes. Decluttering first is one of the best things you can do for an easier move. You'll pack fewer boxes, save time and energy when you unpack, and avoid bringing things you no longer use into your new home. Think of it as a fresh start, and we'll make the most of it together.

Can a professional organizer help make moving easier?

Absolutely. I help you make thoughtful decisions before you pack, and build a clear plan for what moves with you, what goes to loved ones, and what gets donated, recycled, or disposed of.

The result: a move that's calmer, more organized, and easier to manage from start to finish.

How far in advance should I start preparing for my move?

Most people underestimate how long it takes to sort through years – even decades – of belongings.

If possible, start several weeks or months out. That extra time means fewer rushed (and regretted) decisions and a lot less last-minute stress.

I'm moving to a much smaller home. How do I decide what will fit?

This is where thoughtful choices matter most. I'll help you sort your belongings first, then we'll work through what you truly use, need, and love with your new space in mind.

The goal isn't squeezing decades of stuff into fewer square feet – it's creating a home that fits the life you're living now.

What's the biggest mistake people make when moving?

Packing everything first and figuring out what belongs in the new home later. That usually means paying to move things you don't need, then spending even more time and energy sorting through them after the fact. Decluttering first makes every step that follows so much easier!

Can you help me if my move is only a few weeks away?

Yes. Even on a tight timeline, having an experienced guide beside you makes a real difference.

We'll zero in on the highest-priority areas of your home first. I'll help you move through decisions about what to keep and what to let go, so you’re clear about what’s moving with you. Plus, I can help you decide where to donate the things you’re ready to release.

With me by your side, you'll reduce stress and keep things moving forward.

Packing & Moving-Day Preparation

Do you pack everything for me?

I provide light packing services. Here's what that means:

(1) I’ll sort your belongings first, then help you decide what belongs in your next home and what you’re ready to donate, sell, pass along, or dispose of. We can work through your home area by area, focusing on the highest-priority spaces first and keeping track of items that need to go to family members or other destinations. That means fewer unnecessary things make the move — and you’re clear about what’s going with you before the movers arrive.

(2) I’ll help you pack the items you decide to keep, such as books, household goods, kitchen items, clothing, sports equipment, and more. By sorting and making those decisions first, you won’t be paying to pack and move things you no longer want.

(3) For furniture and other large, fragile, specialty, or high-value items — such as glass-front cabinets, mirrors, or valuable artwork — I’m happy to connect you with a trusted, insured moving and packing company that specializes in handling those items.

And once you’re in your new home, I can help you unpack and organize so you feel settled and at home as soon as possible.

What should stay with me instead of going on the moving truck?

Key items to keep with you on moving day include medications, important documents, jewelry and other valuables, chargers, and anything you'll want within immediate reach during your first days in your new home.

I also recommend keeping fragile or irreplaceable heirlooms close by. As part of your moving prep, I’ll help you think through what you may want to keep with you. We'll build this list together, well before moving day, so nothing important ends up lost in a box marked "misc."

How do you handle donations and other items leaving my home?

As we work, I’ll help you identify what you’re ready to let go of and keep track of what’s being donated, sold, or passed along to family and friends. Before anything is removed, we’ll review the items together, so you're confident about what's being released.

This extra step protects you and gives you peace of mind – especially during a large project when many belongings may be moving in different directions. Nothing leaves your home for donation or disposal without your knowledge and approval.

Unpacking & Organizing Your New Home

What does a professional unpacking and organizing service include?

Unpacking is about much more than getting things out of boxes. I help you unpack strategically, decide where belongings should live, and create simple organizing systems based on how you actually use your new home.

Instead of ending up with empty boxes but no real order, you'll have functional spaces that help you feel at home from the start.

What's the first thing I should unpack?

Rather than opening boxes at random, we start with the spaces you'll use right away – typically the primary bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Unpacking in the right order helps your new home feel comfortable and functional as quickly as possible.

How long does it usually take to unpack after moving?

It depends on the size of your new home, how much you're bringing, how organized your belongings were before packing, how systematically they were packed, and more.

Many people live out of boxes for weeks – sometimes months – simply because the move itself was exhausting. But I'll help you unpack with intention and get things organized as soon as possible, so your new home feels calm and settled much sooner.

Can you help me feel organized from day one?

You bet! Instead of putting things away wherever they happen to fit, I’ll help you build practical organizing systems as we unpack.

That means your new home starts out organized, instead of becoming another project waiting for you down the road.

Can I hire you just for unpacking and organizing after my move?

Absolutely. If you've moved from out of state, used a moving company's packing services, or simply handled the move yourself, I can step in after your belongings arrive to help you unpack, organize, and create functional spaces from the start.

How involved do I need to be during unpacking?

That depends on your preferences and the belongings we're unpacking. Before we begin, we'll talk about how you use your new space, what matters most to you, and where you'd like key belongings to go.

From there, I can do much of the hands-on unpacking and organizing, checking in with you when I need your input or a decision. For personal, fragile, valuable, or irreplaceable belongings, I may ask you to be present.

The goal is to take as much of the work off your plate as possible while making sure your new home is organized in a way that works for you.

Cost & Service Area

How much do moving prep & unpacking services cost?

I offer 6-, 12-, and 24-hour packages, priced at $495, $995, and $1,995, respectivley. With package pricing, you know exactly what you're investing upfront, rather than working with an open-ended hourly rate that can make the final cost harder to predict.

You also stay in control of how your project unfolds.

For instance, you can start with one space and one package, a great way to pace a moving prep and/or unpacking project when you have ample time to work on it. Then you can add packages until it's complete. If you want to get your project done as soon as possible or you're working against a tight deadline, you can choose a larger package from the start. That way, you can reserve the days and times you need to meet your goals.

During your consultation, we'll talk through your goals and timeline, and I'll recommend the best place to begin.

Bottom line? You have the flexibility to move at the pace that's right for you!
